This message is sent of behalf of Capt. Joe
To Ship Burnaby Ship’s Company, Parents, and Guardians,
We are writing to recap on the situation today at Jericho Sailing Center. Below is a short log from on of our Skippers.
9:00am – Class Arrives and begins lecture
10:00am – suit up
10:30am – dry run training
10:45am – head out
10:50am – wind picks up to 25 knots and climbing, all participants hold back
11:00am – recall all classes, small craft warning. All classes on standby
12:30pm – white caps and white tideline indicates build up
1:00pm – dismissal
Unfortunately due to the significant build up of wind and white caps emerging from the strait of georgia, sailing activities had been suspended for all MacSailing classes today at 11:00am. For the safety of our members, we have asked MacSailing to suspend all our activities for the day including canoeing but continue running short lectures and await on the beach, in hopes of calmer winds and current.
Our Skippers and Leaders agree and support with MacSailing’s decision, as it was made prudent on our members safety. Any questions or concerns, please reach out to Capt. Joe or myself.
Yours in Scouting,
Section Head – Venture
